Bob drove me up to Ontario so I could begin the second phase of my Sabbatical. We came through Niagara Falls--always a treat.
I've been on silent retreat since May 2 here at the Jesuit Retreat Centre in Guelph, Ontario. There are sixteen of us from all over the world, men and women of prayer, who have come to complete the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. By the end of our time together, on June 10th, we will have completed the forty-day retreat (5 Disposition Days, 30 Retreat Days focusing on four main themes, and 5 Appropriation Days).
Each day is very scheduled with a focus on a theme from Scripture or theology. The pattern looks like this:
3-4:30 am Prayer and Reflection
6-7:30 am Prayer and Reflection
8-Breakfast
9-10 Meet with my Spiritual Director, Jeanine Glute
11:30-Worship in the Chapel with Holy Eucharist for all!
12:30-Luneh
1-2:30-Prayer and Reflection
2:30-4:30-Walk/Nap/Art
4:30-6-Prayer and Reflection
6-Dinner
7-8:30 pm-Prayer and Reflection
8:30-9 pm Examen of Conscience and Bedtime!
Today we have had a short Day of Repose. We were allowed to speak to one another and to send an email or two. I wanted to publish a new posting so you know that I am very, very well. This is a transforming experience. Just after completing the first portion of our 30 day retreat, I know that my relationship with Jesus and my understanding of God have forever deepened.
The land at Guelph (600 acres) is rolling farmland. The Jesuit community is vitally committed to preserving farmland and using it cooperatively with local farmers who grow only organic produce. They have a training program for new farmers to learn the theology of caring for God's good earth. That's forward thinking!
This is a view of the farmland from a bench in front of one of three hermitages.

During this time I am praying for our Confirmands at St. Stephen's, family members, friends and parishioners who come to mind. Please continue to pray for me as I grow in faith. For all those who have made this opportunity possible, thank you!
Our Lord does wastes not even a crumb of our lives to bring us to this present moment.
With love and gratitude,
Hannah +
