Today I learned how to enamel! Jean Tudor, a leading enamelist in the States, was teaching a student the finer techniques of enameling and I was invited to make a pendant. The process took a few hours but was fascinating. Check out the pictures from start to finish. :) Hannah
You start off with copper discs.
After preparing them, you add a liquid flux and scrape out a design. Then fine glass powder of different colors is applied and you fire the pendant in a kiln at 1500 degrees for 1 1/2 minutes.
Here are the discs with sketching and one firing.
Each side of the copper disc must be enameled to maintain an equal surface tension.
Here are the finished products after two coats of enameling on either side!
